Welcome to your Youth in Arts dance residency with Mentor Artist Stephanie Bastos! In this residency, students are introduced to the creative movement and rich cultural musical traditions of the Brazilian people, learning dances that have evolved from the fusion of European, Indigenous and African traditions.

Stephanie Bastos

Brazilian and Contemporary Dance
Stephanie Bastos is a first generation Brazilian- American, who has been performing and teaching Modern Dance for more than fifteen years throughout the United States, Germany, and Brazil after losing her leg in a car accident. She has worked with the Isadora Duncan Dance Ensemble, Urban Bush Women, Axis Dance Company and Ron Brown’s/ EVIDENCE. Her teaching credits include FSU/World Dance Festival, American College Dance Festival, ODC in San Francisco and various schools and arts organizations throughout the Bay Area in California including Destiny Arts Center and Youth In Arts/ VSA. Bastos has also been featured on Good Morning America- ABC, Dateline NBC, Princeton Book Company's, Isadora Duncan Dance: Technique and Repertory, People Espanol Magazine, Dance Magazine and received the 2011 San Francisco "Izzies” Award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance (Ensemble with Ase West Dance Theater Collective). Most recently, she can be seen singing and dancing with Deep Waters Dance Theater and Aguas Da Bahia in the Bay Area.
