Abstract Line Self-Portraits
There are a variety of ways to make self portraits. This project introduces the concept of self portraits in a safe and accessible (abstract) way while building skills in other areas such as observational drawing. Students brainstorm five adjectives or adverbs to describe themselves. Each word is turned into a different line. The project can be taken in many different directions from here: the lines can be added to masks, black canvases in abstract patterns, or used on other work as well. The lines created during this exercise can add a personal note to many kinds of work that follow in the classroom.
