African American History and Culture through Music
In this informative and celebratory residency, students will learn about and practice music of African American culture. Beginning with the music of West Africa and tracing the evolution of melodies, artists, and lyrics over the course of American history, we will explore the songs of some of the most impactful musical and historical moments of our country with Mentor Artist Mr. Bryan.

Architecture Where You ARE: 3D Explorations through Visual Arts and Dance
Aspiring designers and builders use their own creativity to imagine their own new built worlds. Explore balance with dance, and then use materials found nearby to create collage neighborhoods, 3D playgrounds and towers. Ideal for Grades 3-5

Create a Story with Imaginary characters through visual art and dance
Use your imagination to create imaginary animals and worlds for them to live in, and then create a dance to tell the story of your creations. We will create new characters and the worlds they live in! Ideal for grades 2-4

Feelings, Friends and My World through Visual Arts
Explore feelings and friendship with drawing and collage. Discover how to make letter monsters and animals, empathy portraits, paper playgrounds and a lively neighborhood street from junk mail. What do we need to thrive and survive, together and apart? Practice critical social emotional skills, choice making, problem solving and spacial awareness. Ideal for Grades K-3

Introduction to Body Percussion & Step
The residency uses Stepping and STOMP-style body percussion. A fast paced and culturally rich style of body music performance that focuses on physical, mental, and emotional connections for students. The residency is centered around giving young people a safe, inclusive, engaging space that challenges youth to see, reveal, and strengthen who they are. Stepping and body percussion promotes teamwork, discipline, confidence, music appreciation and physical well being. Students can expect to expand their knowledge of rhythm and musicality.

What can you do with a Brown Bag?
Artists need to create, and in this course, young artists explore four ways to use a brown grocery bag as the starting point. We will show you how to create books, mask-hats, collages and unique drawings using the beautiful soft, scratchy brown grocery bag. Ideal for Grades K-4

Youth in Arts' broad roster of professional visual and performing artists and educators, known as Mentor Artists, have created the content you will find on the YIArts.COR. While many of our artists live and work in the California Bay Area, we work with practitioners from all over the country and all over the world!
Can I enroll in multiple courses?
Yes! With a broad spectrum of offerings in music, dance, visual arts, architecture, and new media, we have both free and paid courses for you to explore at your own pace or with a larger group through our Artists in Schools program!
